BOULDER, CO- Da Buffs team was working tirelessly to put final touches on their first prototype of the “Name Plate”. The Name Plate project originated and is being funded by Mitrano Corp. The project is being fabricated in the ITLL Laboratories of the University of Colorado at Boulder. The team has spent 80+ man hours constructing and designing this project. The team is made up of six team members: Erik Kardash, Jack Setter, Dillon Stevens, Matt Normile, & Brad Briscoe. We were able to catch up with Dillon Stevens after they finalized their design. When asked about the design of their project Dillon said “We started of with knowing we wanted rotating objects and lights, we did a lot of brainstorming based off of those two ideas”. The team decided that it would be a good plan to find a way to also integrate the team name and logo onto the Name Plate. In the design process they considered including a rotating buffalo and also a small LED picture of the logo . In the last hours of creating the design they concluded on engraving an entire buffalo into the back plate of the design. “ The addition of the buffalo in the center really helped fill the empty space and aesthetically gave it a really good look. In addition we added Blue LED strips all along the edge of the back plate giving it a very clean illuminated look.” The overall aesthetics remained a top priority throughout the entire design and construction process. Even the arduino and battery placement was thought through. “ The resources that this lab provides gives us a lot of freedom, for example we were able to 3D print a cube, and were able to make that cube continuously spin using DC motors.” said Erik. Da Buffs team plans to work throughout the night of Monday September 22nd putting the finishing touches on the Name Plate. If you are interested in seeing the first public viewing you may attend on Tuesday September 23 in the ITLL at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
